If you wish to visit coastal seaside towns you can choose between Whitby or Scarborough both have historic interest in the Abbey at Whitby and Scarborough Castle and a history of fishing, Scarborough has its Gardens and Whitby the Captain Cook Museum. getting to the coast will take you 30 to 35 minute drive through picturesque villages or over the moors and through the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. If you enjoy historic sites and houses we are close to Nunnington Hall, Scampston Hall and Castle Howard.  Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey are half an hour away and short drive will take you to an old roman site at Cawthorne or what remains of a roman road. Lots to keep you coming back!!

Around the moors

Hutton Le Hole, a very picturesque village is home to the Ryedale Folk Museum - well worth a visit.

Rosedale Abbey nestled in the dale this village is a good place to commence walks on the moors.

Turn right out of our drive and follow the road through Newton Rawcliff which takes you across the moors towards Whitby.  This is a very lovely route known locally as the Roman Road. Drive carefully as the sheep have access to the road and use it frequently!!!

For breath taking views of the Yorkshire country side a visit to Sutton Bank is a must.  Park at the informative visitors center  and take the circular walk along the escarpment.  You may be lucky enough to see a glider take off as there is an aerodrome on the top of Sutton Bank.

Along the coast

Whitby - Captain Cooks Museum, Whitby Abbey, The Dracula Experience

Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay - old smuggling coves just oozing character.

Scarborough - All the fun of a traditional seaside town.  Walk from the Spa in South Bay to the Sea Life Sanctuary in Scalby Mills.  If your feeling less energetic stroll around Peasholm Park - don't miss The Glen Walk - Very tranquil. For history buffs Scarborough Castle is a must to visit.

Filey - seaside fun on a smaller more sedate scale. This little town has some nice shops selling clothing, decor items, antiques and collectibles.
