A small tranquil retreat from the world. Surrounded by nature and blessed with a babbling beck. Hear the birds sing and watch the steam trains as they pass.
Take a seat in our Tea Garden and soak in the peacefulness and beauty.Drinks and light snacks served 11am until 4pm Thursday to Sunday.(Open on Bank Holidays too).
Lowther House is a 200 year old stone built house. The ground it stands on has been part of the Duchy of Lancaster Estate for centuries. Set at the end of a long drive in a clearing in Pickering Woods there is a real country feel about it yet it is just a fifteen minute walk down a tree-lined road into Pickering Town Centre.
Bordered on two sides by Pickering Beck and on the other two sides by a wood and Lowther Butts wild flower reserve, it is well placed for a relaxing holiday getaway in a picturesque setting with many attractions close by to keep you entertained. The North York Moors Railway station - Pickering's most popular destination - is just ten minutes walk away and the passing trains can be viewed from our garden.
You can walk into the North York Moors National Park from our gate and the Yorkshire Wolds are near by too. This makes Lowther House the perfect location for exploring this beautiful area. There are also excellent cycle tracks close by and in the near by Dalby Forest. The coast is not far so you can sample the delights of seaside towns like Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay - to name but a few! For those that enjoy history there are many historic sites to visit in this area.
Evening Meals are offered to our guests. (pre booking is required). Select 2 or 3 courses from our Monthly Menu. Weather permitting we can even serve the meal outside if you wish.
Open from April to the end of September. Listen to the babbling beck and the bird song. Watch the trains from NYMR pass by. Sample our savory menu or be tempted by our home made cakes
We have three cosy rooms all with private shower rooms and lovely views of the surrounding nature. We are dog friendly but they must be no larger than a cocker spaniel please.

DINNING - We have found that quite a few of our B & B guests have taken the option of an evening meal, which saves them the walk into Pickering or choosing who is designated driver!! During the warmer summer months we look forward to being able to serve our guests in the garden instead of the dinning room - very romantic!! Weather permitting, we serve breakfasts out there!!
CHILDREN - We only accommodate children over 12 years old. We can not put an extra bed in any of the rooms - sorry.
DOGS - Your four legged friend is most welcome but only if he/she is a small to medium sized dog. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the dinning room during breakfast service - sorry. Please read our 'House Rules for Dogs' a copy of which you can access at the bottom of our Look and Book page in our Booking Policy section.
